Websites
The Massachusetts Teachers Association offers websites to our local affiliates on the popular online web/blog platform, WordPress. These sites are available at no cost and are clean, user-friendly and relatively easy to administer. For some context, check out these sites created by MTA local association webmasters: East Longmeadow, Canton and Martha’s Vineyard. More MTA local association sites are posted here.
In addition to providing local associations with these sites, MTA Digital Communications staffers, Sarah Nathan and Carlos Avila, offer training – online – to webmasters. We will schedule these sessions at a convenient time around the school day.
As far as making the switch, we can assist with transferring the content on an existing site to the new site on the MTA’s WordPress platform, and then provide training on how to maintain/update the new site.
Action Network: Digital Organizing Tools & Bulk Email
Action Network is an open platform with a variety of online organizing tools. Some of the features include bulk email, petitions, event campaigns and email campaigns to legislators, school committee members, etc. Action Network is available to all MTA affiliates and staffers.
Surveys
We have some Survey Monkey accounts available to MTA local and chapter member for union purposes. Locals use our service to survey their membership on topics including bargaining priorities (most popular), indoor air quality, professional development needs, member satisfaction, etc. We have a catalog of survey templates and ready-made questions that locals can use to develop their own instruments. We have also created templates from questions that have been field-tested by the National Education Association. Local associations also have the option of creating surveys from scratch.
Social Media
We regularly help local association leaders and members establish a presence on social media. We provide technical support as well as advice about strategy (which social media outlets are the best fit) and content (where to seek out content, when to post, what to post, etc.) MTA local associations are on social media are on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
